Slum Housing and Repair

The areas that PCF works in are at the heart of slum areas where families build makeshift shanties from second hand pieces of wood and make use of used tarpaulin and rusty corrugated sheets of metal for their roofs. During the rainy season the families of our school children live with inches of dirty water in their homes, often spiralling the whole family into crisis because they get sick and can not work. After typhoon Ondoy hit in September 2009, these houses collapsed and in response we took on the ambitious project of pr oviding new housing for these familes

There are an 200 shanties that need rebuilding, to repair a shanty usually costs £100 or Php7,000 and to rebuild asingle story shanty £178.00 or Php13,000. For a two story building for a large family the cost is £250.00 - Php35,000.

Homes are rebuilt using a wooden frame and concrete boards and corrugated metal roofs, each home is built or repaired by PCF's carpenters and the man of the house.
